NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State freshman Chris Fields Jr. put together a historic performance on Monday evening, and he now has received the accolades to show for it.

Fields was named both Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week by the conference office on Thursday afternoon, the first MEAC recognitions of his career.

Playing 20 minutes off the bench in a 118-73 win over Virginia University of Lynchburg, Fields exploded for a career-high 31 points, shooting 12-of-13 from the floor and 2-of-3 from behind the arc. He also added six rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

Fields' performance marked the most points by a Norfolk State freshman in the program's Division I era.

Through the first 15 games of his career, Fields currently averages 6.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest. He and the Spartans return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 4 p.m. on the road against Howard.
